The son of Wigan Athletic legend Maynor Figueroa, Keyrol Figueroa, trained alongside Alexander Isak during the Swede's first training session with Liverpool earlier this week. Maynor Figueroa, who made 200 appearances for Wigan and was part of the 2013 FA Cup-winning team, became a father just a few years before his transfer to Fulham in 2008.

The then-toddler, who moved from Honduras to the North West of England in 2006, is now a 19-year-old striker playing for Liverpool's academy. Keyrol Figueroa joined Liverpool in 2018 and has since represented the Reds at various youth levels, as well as the United States' Under-17, Under-19 and Under-20 teams.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, Liverpool's former Under-18s manager, previously highlighted Figueroa's versatility, stating: "He can play both [centrally and from the right wing] and he can score goals and create moving forwards... There are lots of things that he can do, whether he plays in the middle or slightly off one side."

Isak returned to Liverpool's training ground earlier than other Reds players who were on international duty this week, clearly eager to regain match fitness having barely played since the end of last season. It was the absence of most of Liverpool's senior players which led to Figueroa being called up to train alongside Isak.

While Figueroa is potentially a future prospect, the £125 million man he trained with on Wednesday, Isak, is very much a player for the present.

Isak might feature in some capacity against Burnley this weekend but is doubtful to be handed a starting berth given his limited playing time in recent months.

During Friday's press conference, Arne Slot faced questions from reporters for the first time since Isak joined Liverpool, with the manager asked about his initial thoughts on the striker.

"Maybe people don't believe me if I give you this answer but I haven't spoken to him that much," Slot responded.

"So, I spoke to him after he signed by phone because he had to go to the national team and the way I, 99 out of 100 times, treat my players during international breaks is I leave them for the manager they are working with over there.

"So, I texted him now maybe once or twice because he is new to us [and] I wanted to know how he did. But I do have to get to know him as a person much better in the upcoming days and weeks.

"But although we find it very important how someone is because we have such a great culture here at this club, we mainly sign a player also for his qualities and therefore I don't need to call them. We faced him a few times, I faced him a few times, and I know what a quality player he is."
