Paulo Di Canio appeared to crack his own head open when showing frustration live on TV. The former West Ham United striker was involved in a post-match Champions League discussion with Fabio Capello on Sky Sports in Italy.

During a particularly tense moment, Di Canio showed his frustration by leaning forward and banging his own head on the desk in front of him. After the third time of doing so, he appeared to draw blood and put his hand to his head.

He then stood up, with Capello handing him a tissue. Di Canio, as well as Capello and the show’s presenter all laughed at the situation, with the former not seriously hurt.

It’s not clear what the two were debating during the show, but it appeared to have got Di Canio riled up. The Italian was, of course, no stranger to showing his frustration on the pitch.

While playing for Sheffield Wednesday in 1998, he famously pushed referee Paul Alcock to the ground after being shown a red card against Arsenal . The incident resulted in the forward being handed an 11-game ban and a £10,000 fine.

Following retirement from playing, he stepped into management with both Swindon Town and Sunderland . He lasted just 13 matches in charge of the Black Cats before leaving in September 2013, and has not had a managerial job since.

On the pitch, the night of Champions League football was full of drama, with Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Sporting seeing them book their place in the semi-final of the competition. That was thanks to a 1-0 win in the first leg last week.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich booked their place in the final four thanks to a 4-3 win over Real Madrid . That result means that the German side came out as 6-4 winners on aggregate.
