‘My choice was right…’: On-loan Man Utd man sends thinly-veiled dig to parent club

Rasmus Hojlund has reflected on his choice to leave Manchester United last summer and join Napoli on loan for the majority of 2025/2026.

In fairness, the term ‘choice’ can be used loosely, given it was made clear to him at the time that he would be playing a heavily reduced role following the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

The Dane’s Old Trafford departure followed a season in which he had failed to reach the standards required of him, having returned just four Premier League goals in 32 appearances.

Sesko, while not a nailed-on starter, has exceeded Hojlund’s tally by two goals already in 11 fewer games.

Alas, it wasn’t the most difficult decision for INEOS to facilitate his exit.

He was initially in talks over a loan to AC Milan, until a lengthy injury setback to Romelu Lukaku prompted the reigning Serie A champions to ignite their pursuit, and Hojlund was swayed towards Naples.

In his 22 league outings thus far, the 23-year-old has scored eight goals. Only two have come in his last 10 appearances, despite him starting and playing the full 90 minutes in nine of them.

He has claimed silverware early on in his Napoli tenure, though, as Antonio Conte’s side won the Italian Super Cup back in December via a 2-0 win over Bologna.

When sharing a snap of him lifting the trophy, he liked a comment on Instagram that read: “Manchester who?”

Now, he has further weighed in on his summer switch. He told Il Mattino : “I came here [to Napoli] because I wanted to win trophies, and winning the Italian Super Cup was proof that my choice was the right one .”
