Marcus Rashford transfer conditions emerge as Man Utd haggle with Barcelona

Barcelona reportedly want to secure Marcus Rashford on a second loan spell amid suggestions that his Manchester United departure is hitting obstacles. It has been claimed that the La Liga leaders are presently reluctant to activate his €30million (£26m) option and another temporary arrangement is being considered if they cannot negotiate United's asking price downwards.

Rashford has been plying his trade away from Old Trafford since January 2025 having initially joined Aston Villa on loan. The Premier League club opted against making the move permanent, clearing the path for him to link up with the Spanish giants.

The 28-year-old has been in excellent form for the Catalan outfit as they lead the table, while he played his part in their ultimately unsuccessful Champions League campaign before elimination to city rivals Atletico Madrid in the last eight. There have been contradictory accounts surrounding Rashford and a permanent switch to Catalonia.

Initially, it was suggested that Barcelona were enthusiastic and determined to complete a deal for the England international. However, in recent weeks, it has been indicated that Hansi Flick's side have hesitated over the £26million buyout clause and are attempting to reduce the fee, something that United are refusing to entertain.

Now, it has been claimed that Barcelona are prepared to take Rashford on loan once more next season as they remain unwilling to satisfy the Premier League outfit's requirements. Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg wrote: "Understand Barcelona are pushing for a second loan for Marcus Rashford . Talks with Manchester United are ongoing.

"Barcelona currently do not want to trigger the €30m option to buy - ideally a second loan, otherwise they want to negotiate the fee down. #MUFC In any case, Rashford should stay. Approved by Hansi Flick."

Rashford is currently entering the final 18 months of his contract at Old Trafford, and this summer represents the last realistic chance for United to recoup any meaningful fee for the forward. Having racked up 297 Premier League appearances, Rashford has been a valuable asset to United after coming through the ranks of their acclaimed academy.

Yet following his fall from grace under Ruben Amorim, he has had the opportunity to escape the weight of expectation at his boyhood club. Should a second loan spell at Barcelona be completed, it would take him beyond his existing United contract, meaning he would be available as a free agent at the conclusion of next season.

The German tactician at the Camp Nou is reportedly eager to continue his partnership with Rashford as the pair edge closer to claiming major honours together.

Rashford's 13th goal of the campaign helped Barcelona to a 2-0 victory away at Getafe, moving them 11 points clear of closest rivals Real Madrid .
