Luis Enrique says PSG must rotate in light of fixture congestion
“We will play nine games in 27 days,” said Luis Enrique in the wake of Paris Saint-Germain’s defeat to Olympique Lyonnais (2-1) on Sunday night. There was an air of frustration as the Spaniard evoked PSG’s fixture congestion, but the infernal calendar that the reigning French and European champions now face is one of their own making.
PSG will face FC Nantes on Wednesday. That game was scheduled to take place in early/mid-March but was moved – at Les Parisiens’ request – in order to aid their preparations for their matches against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League. A similar measure was taken to aid their preparations for the double-header against Liverpool. On that occasion, it was a tie against RC Lens that was postponed. That game will now take place in between the penultimate and final gameweek of the Ligue 1 season.
Speaking after the defeat to Lyon, Luis Enrique asked, “What can you do? You have to play nine games in 27 days. Turnover is the solution. If you don’t understand it, you don’t understand anything.” The schedule is now hectic; PSG are in part to blame for that.
