Jurgen Klopp opens up on special Anfield return in unique Kenny Dalglish moment

Jurgen Klopp has reflected on the special moment he savoured during his return to Anfield last weekend for the Liverpool Legends fixture against one of his previous clubs, Borussia Dortmund . The former Reds manager was back on Merseyside on Saturday and, on this occasion, assumed a fresh position, working as assistant manager to Sir Kenny Dalglish in the Anfield technical area.

Dalglish guided the Liverpool Legends, with Klopp standing alongside goalscoring legends Ian Rush and John Aldridge on the sidelines to assist the Kop icon. It represented Klopp's first appearance at Anfield since witnessing the Reds, now managed by his replacement Arne Slot , secure the Premier League title against Crystal Palace on the campaign's closing day.

Liverpool got off to a flying start, with Thiago finding the net after only six minutes before Jay Spearing extended the advantage with a spectacular effort before the interval.

Dortmund fought back after the restart, as Mohamed Zidan reduced the deficit just after the hour and Jan Koller subsequently levelled to prevent Liverpool from claiming victory.

Posting on Instagram , Klopp discussed his 'dream' homecoming to Liverpool and emphasised what a privilege it was to work beside three Reds icons.

He wrote: "A dream you don't dare to dream became true: First time as an assistant coach in my life.

"What an honour to assist Sir Kenny, alongside Ian and John! I hope I did an ok job and surely we've had a lot of fun..."

Speaking following Saturday's match, Klopp said: "Enjoyed every second. My role was definitely not to have a lot of words. I was here for the Foundation and to be part of a really special experience.

"For me, a very special experience after a while - being around, being that close, seeing all the Liverpool lads and then seeing the Dortmund lads as well because that was like 80 per cent of my players.

"And you don't meet very often and have them all together in one room. It's really cool. It was really, really, really nice.

"And the people suck it in. It's just so nice to see all the boys playing, but I think Thiago alone was worth the ticket!"
