Jadon Sancho will have to accept a significant drop in wages if he wants to rejoin Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Sancho will leave Manchester United as a free agent in June when his current deal expires. A host of clubs have expressed interest in signing the former England winger.
But it's understood former club Dortmund are leading the race to sign the 26-year-old. Sancho produced some of the best football of his career during three spells with the Bundesliga outfit, and is keen to go back to Dortmund.
But it's understood Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has made it clear to Sancho that his club cannot match the current £250,000-a-week he earns in English football.
It means Sancho will have to accept a contract closer to £150,000-a-week in order to secure a move to Dortmund. Sancho is desperate to turn his back on the Premier League and head to Europe in the hope of reigniting his flagging career.
Sancho joined United from Dortmund for £73m in 2021. He was expected to have a huge role in helping United challenge for big trophies again.
But the switch to Old Trafford turned into a nightmare for both parties. At the start of the 2023/24 season he was banned from training with the United squad following a public bust-up with then boss Erik ten Hag.
He returned to Dortmund on-loan in the January transfer window and helped them reach the Champions League final.

Sancho went back to United ahead of the following season, but despite clearing the air with Ten Hag, was allowed to join Chelsea on a season-long loan. But he failed to impress, and went on-loan again at the start of this season to Aston Villa , where he has also failed to make an impact.
Sancho feels a fresh start in the familiar environment of Dortmund will help him rediscover his best form and love of the game again. Sancho has won 23 England caps and was part of the squad which reached the final of the Euros in 2021.
But he has not played for the Three Lions since October of the same year, and remains keen to secure regular first team football to boost his chances of earning an international recall.
