There is positive news for Chelsea on the injury front after defeat to Arsenal , with a huge game at Aston Villa coming up on Wednesday.

The Blues were beaten 2-1 at the Emirates on Sunday, losing ground in the race for the top five and qualification for next season’s Champions League .

Liam Rosenior’s side sit sixth in the Premier League , three points behind Liverpool in fifth and six adrift of Aston Villa in fourth.

Chelsea go to Villa Park on Wednesday with a great chance to gain ground on their hosts, but obviously with the risk of their European hopes being damaged.

Rosenior delivered the team news in a press conference on Monday afternoon and firstly gave a positive update on Cole Palmer.

The England international went down in concerning fashion during the first half at the Emirates, but got up and played on until being replaced late in the game.

The manager confirmed it was not an issue with his long-standing groin problem and Palmer is expected to be available against Villa.

‘It wasn’t [his groin problem]. He took a knock, he was absolutely fine,’ said Rosenior. ‘He’s looking really good.

‘He played 83 minutes. I took him and Enzo off because they were both on yellow cards. He’s absolutely fine to start the game on Wednesday.’

There is also encouraging news about Marc Cucurella and Estevao, both of whom missed the clash with Arsenal due to hamstring problems.

‘Getting closer,’ Palmer said of the pair. ‘Cucu is looking good, hopefuly we can get him back involved if not on Wednesday, then on Saturday. Estevao is back running on the pitch.’

The Blues remain without the likes of Levi Colwill and Jamie Gittens through injury, while Pedro Neto will miss the game in midweek due to suspension after his red card against Arsenal.

Wesley Fofana will return from his own suspension, though, and will hope to return to the starting XI.

Aston Villa will remain without a string of key players, with Youri Tielemans, John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara all missing out.

After a brilliant season, Unai Emery’s side has hit a sticky patch, with defeat to Wolves last time out, which followed a draw with Leeds.

The 2-0 loss at Molineux was a huge blow for Villa, but Emery issued a rallying cry after defeat to the Premier League’s bottom side.

‘Now is the moment – the supporters and everybody to be together and we need them,’ he said on Friday.

‘I am so motivated, so excited about how we are in the Premier League in matchday 28. At the beginning we weren’t favourites, we weren’t contenders, and we’re fighting with those great teams like Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool.

‘They have huge power and they need to be in our position, it’s their target clearly. But we are competing fantastic, we are being consistent, even now when we are losing here, we must react and we must as well tell our supporters we need them and we must be together.

‘We must achieve our objectives creating a great atmosphere in Villa Park, a great atmosphere here because they were here with us. And, as well, trying to support the players, help the players and again recover our good form, good mood.
