Eddie Howe admitted that Bruno Guimaraes might have picked up another injury in the closing stages of Newcastle ’s win over Tottenham .

Goals from Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey saw Newcastle pick up a hugely important 2-1 away win to end their four-game winless run in the Premier League .

The result moves Newcastle above local rivals Sunderland and into tenth, while leaving Spurs only five points off the bottom three.

Perhaps the only negative for the visits on the night was the substitution of Guimares, who was forced to make way in stoppage time after going down in the closing stages.

The Brazilian midfielder was in obvious discomfort and was ultimately replaced by Lewis Hall after an assessment from Newcastle’s medical staff.

Guimaraes only returned last weekend against Brentford after a four-game absence with an ankle injury, but Howe said the 28-year-old may now have a problem with his hamstring.

‘Not sure,’ the Newcastle boss said when asked about Guimaraes post-match. ‘He’s a little bit worried.

‘He said he’s never had a problem with his hamstrings before so is it cramp, was it a muscle problem?

‘It probably feels more of an injury to me but let’s wait and see and try and stay positive at this moment.’

But Howe was keen to focus instead on the performance of his players, who were finally able to savour their first away win of the calendar year with the travelling fans.

‘A great response from the players, they really did inspire each other and help each other,’ Howe added. ‘I think it was one of our best performances of the season, a dominant display.

‘Our supporters have travelled far and wide to watch us and we feel like we’ve let them down on a few occasions, so nice today that we get that moment to celebrate with them.

‘Not just me, but the players and some of the new players get a chance to experience the love from the fans. That was a special connection and I’m grateful it’s still there.’

Newcastle are back on the road at the weekend as they travel to face Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round.
