Hansli Flick remained tight-lipped on Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona future after his side extended their lead at the top of La Liga . Rashford is on a season-long loan at the club, who have the option to buy him for £26million at the end of the campaign.

The forward has impressed at Spotify Camp Nou, scoring 11 goals and claiming 11 assists already this season. And he helped his side strengthen their lead at the top of La Liga against Atletico Madrid on Saturday night.

Having seen Real Madrid had earlier slipped to a shock defeat at Mallorca, Flick’s side came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory at the Metropolitano. Giuliano Simeone had put fourth-placed Atletico ahead, but Rashford soon equalised before Robert Lewandowski struck the winner three minutes from time.

But speaking after the game, and although Flick admitted he was 'very happy' with Rashford’s performances, he was coy on whether the permanent clause would be triggered.

"I'm very happy with Marcus," the German said. "He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal.

"I can't say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season."

Rashford has not played for United since December 2024, and lost his No.10 shirt to Matheus Cunha under former coach Ruben Amorim during the summer. Before that, Ruben Amorim said he would rather name his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach as a substitute than a player who does not give his all, in response to a question about Rashford.

The forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa and was forced to train at a separate time from United’s first-team players in the summer before he joined Barca. And speaking to ESPN towards the end of last year, Rashford made clear he wants to join the Catalan giants on a permanent basis this summer.

"Oh yeah, for sure," the forward replied when asked if he wanted to stay at Barcelona . "I'm enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player it is an honour."

Before he added: "Lots of players have lots of qualities but probably the standouts are Lamine Yamal. And, for me, Pedri is unbelievable.

"I knew he was good before I played with him. But to play with him everyday is unbelievable.
