Alan Shearer believes Tottenham getting relegated would be a shock on par with Leicester City 's miracle Premier League success of 2016.

The north Londoners lost again on Thursday night, going down 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace with thousands of fans leaving at half-time. The reverse was their seventh in nine games and leaves them just one point above the bottom three, who are closing in.

Despite changing their manager by bringing in Igor Tudor to replace Thomas Frank, there has been no upturn in form and fears are growing that the Europa League holders, who are in the Champions League knockouts, could find themselves in the Championship next year.

Tottenham have been Premier League ever presents and their possible relegation would send shockwaves through English football - so much so that Shearer thinks it would be as big as the 5000/1 title charge from the Foxes.

He told Betfair : "It would be one the biggest Premier League shocks if they were to go down. I mean, what would be bigger, Leicester winning it, or Spurs being relegated? I guess it's on a similar scale."

In the aftermath of the loss to the Eagles Tudor refused to answer whether he'd still be in charge of the club when they take to the pitch in the Premier League next Sunday at Liverpool - and Shearer can already see a managerial change on the cards.

"I could see spurs getting rid of Igor Tudor before the end of the season," he added. "It wouldn't be a surprise to me with that club. I've said all I can on Spurs, there's a real-life possibility that Spurs could be relegated and can you imagine that stadium in the Championship. Somehow, from somewhere, they're going to have to get some unity, because on Thursday they just looked as if they were done.

"Unless that improves big style, then they're going down, because at least the others, at least Forest went to City and showed some fight. West Ham have dragged all of them back into it."

Tottenham, without a win in 2026, have seen the sides below them continue to pick up points. In early November the club were sat fifth but have tumbled down the table ever since. Last year they endured a poor campaign, finishing 17th, but were never close enough to the bottom three to really be in jeopardy. This year a number of clubs face a scrap to survive.
