Wolves will play Championship football next season after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed. Rob Edwards' side were beaten 3-0 at Leeds on Saturday and West Ham's goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Monday proved to be the final nail in the coffin.
Tottenham were held by Brighton at the weekend, which ensured Wolves ' top flight status remained a little longer. West Ham only needed to take a point from their game against Crystal Palace on Monday to bring an end Wolves' eight-year stay in the top flight and confirms what felt inevitable even as far back as Edwards' appointment in November .
The 43-year-old, who played for the club, was brought in from Middlesbrough following the sacking of Vitor Pereira . Winless after 11 games, Edwards inherited a Wolves side who were languishing rock bottom of the table on a measly two points.
Protests against the club's ownership had become commonplace at Molineux, with chief executive Jeff Shi ultimately stepping down in December . Edwards lost his first seven games, eventually stopping the rot with a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Manchester United in their final match before the turn of the year.
Wolves only lost four of the next 13 fixtures in all competitions to give themselves an inkling of hope, but failing to beat Leeds left them at the mercy of their relegation rivals with the Hammers doing the necessary business.

The Molineux outfit have enjoyed some brief moments of celebration in what has otherwise been a forgettable season. They scored in stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 draw against Arsenal back in February.
Weeks later they secured their only back-to-back wins of the year. First they beat local rivals Aston Villa before getting the better of Liverpool only days later courtesy of an Andre goal in stoppage time.
Wolves can still have an influence over who goes down as they host Tottenham next up. The north Londoners currently sit in the bottom three above Burnley , who themselves have long looked destined for the drop.
