Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning a significant transfer revamp and wage restructure this summer, provided they are not relegated. Spurs are precariously positioned just four points above the drop zone, having failed to secure a Premier League victory in 2026.

Their most recent setback was last Sunday's 4-1 North London Derby defeat to Arsenal , which marred Igor Tudor's managerial debut. Whilst fellow relegation contenders West Ham United managed to scrape a point, Nottingham Forest , who sit just below Tottenham , fell to Liverpool .

Should they be relegated, it would have a substantial financial impact on the Lilywhites. With this looming threat, the club's owners are poised to take action if they manage to retain their Premier League status next season.

The Guardian reports that plans will be set in motion to dismantle the club's rigid wage structure and execute a major overhaul in the summer. The report suggests that there is a recognition within the club that their reluctance to offer higher wages has contributed to their recent difficulties.

Compared to other 'big six' clubs, Tottenham have the lowest wage bill, listed as £222m in their most recent accounts for 2023-24. In contrast, Manchester City's wage bill stood at £413m over the same period. However, there has been some progress in that area following the recent arrivals of Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus and Conor Gallagher .

The latter joined during the January transfer window and has become Spurs' highest earner, with the midfielder pocketing approximately £200,000-per-week. Under Daniel Levy's stewardship, Tottenham became renowned for their reluctance to splash the cash on wages or transfer fees.

But since his departure there is a growing feeling that from within the club's revamped ownership structure that change is due. Spurs' majority shareholders, the Lewis Family, chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange have all faced criticism for the club's struggles this season.

Supporters have been particularly frustrated by the hesitation to dismiss Thomas Frank despite a string of poor results and dismal displays.

Failing to act more swiftly has left Tottenham in a worrying position with 11 fixtures remaining. Away trips to Fulham and Liverpool come before the March international break, alongside home clashes with Crystal Palace and Forest.

The Forest match is crucial for both sides, with only two points currently dividing them in the table. West Ham sit four points behind their London neighbours and are in good form, having suffered just one defeat in their last nine matches across all competitions.
