As part of OneFootball's collaboration series with Shoot Music we're interviewing an artist every week about their love of football.

This week it's Newcastle fan and lead singer of The Pale White, Adam Hope.

How long have you been supporting Newcastle and why?

Admittedly, my love for Newcastle United came later in life. For starters, our dad is from Sunderland, so you can imagine the things the kids at school had to say about that growing up. It put me off for a long time
but fate cannot be denied - only postponed. Wallsend born and bred, we follow the Toon into the fire.

What's your favourite memory of supporting Newcastle as a kid?

I was there in the flesh for Shearer's record breaking 201st goal for the club surpassing Jackie Milburn as Newcastle top goal scorer - ironically, 20 years ago to the very day as I write these words on February 4th 2026. The hairs on the back of my neck stand to salute you, Alan.

How would you assess Newcastle's season so far and what would constitute a successful campaign come May?

Complacency has been the death of us so far. Whether we’re up or down going into the second half, the same old pattern kicks in letting silly mistakes steal the game away from us too many times this season. Mind you, the injuries have been ridiculously unlucky and I think we’ve lacked the chance to get some real chemistry going with new arrivals like Woltemade and Wissa. I think at this point, keeping our heads above water with no more serious injuries and a top 10 finish is all we can really ask for.

How much faith do you have in Eddie Howe that he can turn things around for you this season?

I love Eddie, but he needs to stop being so predictable. Cue the 67th minute, when he makes the same changes game after game. The opposition can read us like a book - they know exactly what to expect. He needs to flip it on its head and not be afraid to try something new. I’d love to see a more attacking approach, because in the rare moments we’ve seen it this season, it’s brought us success.

And finally, can you describe where you were and your feelings when Newcastle won the Carabao Cup last year?

We played a few acoustic songs at a Newcastle fan zone, then watched the match in our favourite venue - The Cluny. You could feel the electricity in the air even before the match started. And when it finished, to see years of heartache wash away from the club was completely surreal.

The Pale White’s new single ‘Absolute Cinema' is out now. Their third album 'Inanimate Objects of the 21st Century' is out March 27th via End of the Wall Recordings.
