Manchester United are hopeful of confirming Michael Carrick as their new permanent manager ahead of this Sunday's fixture against Nottingham Forest . According to The Telegraph , United are aiming to announce the interim head coach as Ruben Amorim's successor before kick-off at Old Trafford.

The report suggests there are still a number of details to finalise before a deal is rubber-stamped, but the club remain confident of getting everything wrapped up before the 12:30pm start.

Mirror Sport understands Carrick is poised to put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with the option to extend his stay for a further third year.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has sanctioned the appointment of Carrick following a meeting amongst the club's top brass, in which director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada endorsed him as the standout candidate for the role.

Carrick hinted at Friday's press conference that his future would be resolved shortly, despite playing his cards close to his chest.

"The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon, we knew that. Nothing has changed, there is no big swing on that," he said.

"It's a unique football club, a special football club you know, and I'm mentally proud to have come back and to be a part of it, to help.

"As a supporter, as an ex-player and an ex-employee is one thing, but as a pure supporter and caring about the club so much to be in a position to come back and help and for as a group to move forward was important, I think, and to make the big step to get back into the Champions League is good, and we're obviously happy with the work that we've done so far. The Reds are on track to secure third place in the Premier League , with Carrick having set down the gauntlet to his squad to surpass that achievement next season.

"You've always got to aim upwards," he said. "That's just the beauty of football and the beauty of competition, to achieve something, to then back it up, to then improve on things.

"I think that's always the challenge. For the players, for the squad, for a whole group, for the football club, we want to keep moving in a positive way and in the right direction and the closer you get to the top, obviously, the less room for progress, but progress is certainly what needs to be aimed for."

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.
