Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Premier League preview, team news and prediction

Sitting firmly in the race for Champions League football in 2026-27, Arne Slot’s Liverpool welcome an improving Crystal Palace to Anfield on Saturday. The reigning champions come into the game on the back of a dramatic Merseyside derby win, while Palace extended their unbeaten run with a 0-0 draw at West Ham.
Liverpool’s latest victory over Everton followed a familiar script, but with a different late hero. After James Tarkowski’s last-gasp equaliser in the final Goodison Park derby, Virgil van Dijk had the decisive moment this time, heading in a record-setting 100th-minute winner after Mohamed Salah and Beto had traded goals. It was Liverpool’s sixth Premier League 90+ minute winner against Everton — more than any side has managed against a single opponent — and it eased the pressure on Slot, at least temporarily.
With Chelsea sliding and Liverpool holding a game in hand, the Reds are closing in on a top-five finish, sitting fifth and five points clear of Brighton. Anfield has also been a stronghold, with just one defeat in their last 10 home league matches.
Crystal Palace arrive with a different focus. The FA Cup and Community Shield holders have little riding on their league position, but a huge European week looms, with a Conference League semi-final first leg against Shakhtar Donetsk in Poland just days away.
Oliver Glasner rotated for Monday’s London derby with West Ham and was rewarded with a clean sheet. Palace sit 13th with a game in hand and, after a damaging 12-match winless run from mid-December to early February, have steadied significantly, winning seven of their last 14 in all competitions. They are also unbeaten in four league games since losing narrowly to Manchester United, and have enjoyed an excellent record against Liverpool this year, taking three wins and a draw across four meetings in all competitions.

Liverpool deputy keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is out for two to four weeks after suffering a knee wound in the derby, and with Alisson Becker still sidelined, third-choice Freddie Woodman is set for his first Premier League start (only his second for the club). Wataru Endo, Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni remain long-term absentees, while Joe Gomez is a doubt.
Crystal Palace are sweating on Adam Wharton (adductor) after he missed the West Ham draw, though Maxence Lacroix was fit enough to play. Cheick Doucoure, Evann Guessand and Eddie Nketiah are definitely out, and Oliver Glasner is expected to recall Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr, who has scored in his last four games against Liverpool.
