Arsenal have reclaimed their position at the Premier League summit following Sunday's battling 2-1 triumph over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have now secured consecutive top-flight victories, indicating they have bounced back following their shaky period which saw them surrender points away at Brentford and Wolves , respectively. Meanwhile, Manchester City came away 1-0 winners at Leeds United with Antoine Semenyo scoring the only goal for the Citizens.

As we now approach the final stretch and into the closing months of the season, the title race is made considerably more complicated by additional competitions.

There remains plenty of football to be contested in the Champions League and FA Cup , alongside the Carabao Cup final between the top two.

Significantly, Arsenal have now completed one fixture more than City, who still must tackle a rescheduled home encounter against Crystal Palace in the forthcoming months.

Mikel Arteta's squad have merely nine fixtures remaining whilst Pep Guardiola's determined challengers have 10 Premier League matches ahead.

Arsenal lead the way on 64, while City are on 59. The maximum points City can reach at this juncture is 89, and that's assuming they defeat the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal's maximum is 91 and that's also assuming they defeat City at the Etihad in April. Crucially, should Arsenal win that encounter, City's maximum points tally is 86. In that circumstance, the mathematics suggest Arsenal would need to collect 20 additional points from now until the campaign's conclusion to guarantee the title – which could be six wins and two draws.

Therefore, a total of 23 points from the Gunners' remaining nine matches, assuming they triumph at City, would be sufficient to see them crowned champions.

City also understand that the title is still within their grasp because if they win their remaining 10 games, they will end up at the summit. If the two EFL Cup finalists were to draw in April, City would also need Arsenal to lose more points before the season's end as they would still be two points behind even if they win their game in hand.

In the event of a draw when they face off in April, Arsenal would need a total of 25 points from their nine matches to mathematically clinch their first Premier League title since 2004.

It's fair to say there is a long road ahead for both teams and the must-watch clash at the Etihad in April will significantly influence where the trophy ends up.

However, it's highly probable that the race to the finish line will go down to the wire. City host Aston Villa on the final day, while Arsenal journey across London to face Crystal Palace.
