Erling Haaland gives spiky response as Man City miss huge Arsenal chance

Erling Haaland became increasingly irritated after Manchester City 's win over Burnley as he was continually quizzed about their lack of goals at Turf Moor.

The Norwegian scored after five minutes, but that would prove to be the only goal of the game . Many thought that Haaland's strike could open the floodgates as Pep Guardiola's side sought to ramp up their goal difference.

Instead they were wasteful in front of goal and failed to score even a second against Burnley, whose relegation to the Championship was confirmed. Haaland himself hit the post but he and his team-mates spurned a number of other chances.

It means they lead the table for the first time since August, but their goal difference with Arsenal is tied, meaning they sit top only by virtue of goals scored. On paper this was City's easiest game but Haaland was simply happy to get the three points.

He said on Sky Sports : “We had a lot of chances but I’m happy we win and that’s the most important thing, anything else… don’t think just try to win.”

It was put to Haaland that performances come secondary to results when the business end of the season and the Norwegian responded: “As I said, it’s all about winning. No matter how, we try to play our football and just try to win. That’s what you have in your mindset and now focus on Saturday.”

When it was again put to him that City's missed out on the opportunity to win by a greater margin the Premier League's leading scorer seemed to let his frustration tell. “Don’t think about the goals, think about winning. As I said now three times," he quipped.

Haaland has now scored 24 times and leads the race for the Golden Boot, which would be his third in four years since moving to the Premier League . He and City, despite assuming the lead of the title race, are likely to be usurped by Arsenal sooner rather than later.

The Manchester outfit are in FA Cup action this weekend and the Gunners will play twice before City return to Premier League action. It means that the north Londoners could establish a six point lead with their two games, leaving Guardiola and co to play catch up once again.
