Crystal Palace will try to make it three straight wins in all competitions when they host a struggling Newcastle United at Selhurst Park in Sunday’s Premier League meeting. Palace come into the game on a high after Thursday’s 3-0 first-leg win over Fiorentina in the Conference League quarter-finals, while Newcastle have had time to dwell on a damaging home defeat to rivals Sunderland.

With their Premier League match against Manchester City postponed because of City’s EFL Cup final involvement, Palace have effectively spent the past month focused on Europe. Under Oliver Glasner — the coach who led Eintracht Frankfurt to the 2021-22 Europa League title — the Eagles now have one foot in the Conference League semi-finals after goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Tyrick Mitchell and Ismaila Sarr put them in control against Fiorentina.

Domestic priorities return on Sunday, as Palace attempt to build momentum in the league after a spell of inconsistency. They were alternating wins and losses before a 0-0 draw with Leeds in March, a match in which Leeds held on for a point despite playing most of the game with 10 men. That result left the Eagles 14th, although they remain closer on points to the top six than to the relegation places.

Selhurst Park has at least become a source of stability in all competitions: Palace are unbeaten in five home games and have kept a clean sheet in each. Their recent Premier League home record is far less convincing — just one win in the last 10 — but Newcastle arrive with problems of their own.

The Magpies have lost six of their last nine league matches, a run matched only by Tottenham in terms of defeats, and their Tyne-Wear derby loss on 22 March was another major blow. Brian Brobbey struck late for Sunderland to seal a 2-1 win at St James’ Park, just days after Newcastle were thrashed 7-2 by Barcelona in Catalonia.

Newcastle are now stuck in the bottom half and facing renewed scrutiny over the futures of key players, though their away form has improved. After winning only three of their first 17 league away matches in 2025-26, Eddie Howe’s side have since won four of their last six on the road and have scored in each of their last nine away games.

Clean sheets have been the issue, however — both teams have scored in eight of those nine away matches — and Newcastle’s record at Selhurst is poor, with just one win in their last 10 visits, a 2-0 victory played behind closed doors in 2020.

Crystal Palace could see one attacker return as another becomes a doubt, with Jorgen Strand Larsen back from his Conference League suspension but Evann Guessand needing assessment after picking up a knock in Thursday’s win.

Guessand is one of three fitness concerns for Oliver Glasner, along with Eddie Nketiah (hamstring), who is out for the season, and Cheick Doucoure, who remains short of a senior return despite recent Under-21s minutes.

Glasner could pair Jean-Philippe Mateta with Strand Larsen, but a more likely solution is Yeremy Pino stepping in for Guessand, which may leave Strand Larsen among the substitutes.

For Newcastle, Sven Botman is expected to miss out after undergoing surgery on the facial injury he suffered in the Tyne-Wear derby, with a return not anticipated until later in the month. Emil Krafth (knee), Bruno Guimaraes (thigh/illness) and Fabian Schar (foot infection surgery) are also set to remain sidelined, although Lewis Miley (thigh) and Sandro Tonali (groin) are pushing to return.

Anthony Gordon, who scored Newcastle’s opener against Sunderland, will again lead the attack as he tries to score in a fourth consecutive Premier League match.
