Coventry City vs Wrexham Championship preview, team news and prediction

Coventry City welcome Wrexham to the CBS Arena on Sunday with the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League already sealed.
For Wrexham, though, there is still plenty at stake. Phil Parkinson’s side arrive knowing that wins in their final two matches could secure sixth place and a play-off spot.
Coventry have drawn three of their last four games, but it has done little to dull the celebrations after they confirmed the title in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 win over Portsmouth in midweek. Frank Lampard’s champions have led the way for much of the season and have been the division’s standout attacking side, scoring 90 goals in 44 matches — at least 13 more than any other team.
Even with the pressure off, Coventry will be keen to finish strongly at home, where they are chasing a 17th win from 23 league games. Their recent standards at the CBS Arena have dipped slightly, though, with two of their six home points drops coming since mid-March and only two clean sheets in their last six there.
That may encourage Wrexham, who have finally built momentum with back-to-back league wins for the first time since February, along with consecutive clean sheets against Stoke (2-0) and Oxford (1-0). Level on points with Hull but ahead on goal difference, Wrexham currently sit in the box seat for sixth and could clinch it by beating Coventry and then fifth-placed Middlesbrough.
They can also take confidence from their away form in their first season back at this level: 34 points from 22 trips, and the second-best defensive record on the road with just 25 goals conceded.

Even with promotion sealed, Frank Lampard is expected to field a strong Coventry side against a Wrexham team with plenty still at stake, though Jake Bidwell, Victor Torp, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ellis Simms are all in contention to come back in. Joel Latibeaudiere could also return to the heart of the defence after being an unused substitute in midweek.
Assuming there are no new injury problems, Phil Parkinson may stick with the XI that won at Oxford, but Issa Kabore is an option at right wing-back in place of Ryan Longman, while Lewis O’Brien and Kieffer Moore provide alternatives in midfield and up front.
Liberato Cacace remains out and is in a race against time to be fit to feature for New Zealand at the 2026 World Cup.
