Anthony Gordon injury latest as Newcastle issue two-man update ahead of Arsenal trip

Tino Livramento faces race to return this season

Gordon has been unable to train since last week suffering a hip injury, which ruled him out of the home defeat to Bournemouth.

The midfielder, who has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, underwent scans which confirmed the damage. It remains to be seen when Gordon will be available, but the club are reportedly confident that he will play again this season.

"Anthony won't make this game," Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe told reporters on Friday.

"It's not a serious injury but he won't be fit for Saturday."

Asked if there were any concerns over Gordon's commitment amid reports of a possible summer move away, Howe dismissed the question. "[He] is injured, 100 per cent," he replied. "So it's a non-question."

While there is hope that Gordon will be able to play again this season, there are fears that Livramento could miss the rest of the campaign.

The full-back, who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, was forced off against the Cherries with a thigh complaint.

Livramento and Newcastle are waiting on the result of scans, amid reports the full-back will miss at least three games as a best-case scenario.

Howe said: "With Tino he went for a scan initially. We will wait and see if he will play again this season.

"He is very level-headed and stable mentally. He was outstanding last season and this year has been different.

"He has never been able to find that run of games to find his best form. He is an outstanding player but hasn't had that chance to have his best run."
