Wolves are bracing themselves for life in the Championship, and despite some improvements under Rob Edwards, they are likely to face another setback when Chelsea visit this weekend. The hosts are winless in their last three outings, having suffered back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Bournemouth. However, Wolves were far from outclassed in either match, registering double-digit shot counts on both occasions. Against Bournemouth in particular, they managed 17 shots compared to the Cherries’ 9, highlighting their attacking intent even in defeat.

The loss of Jorgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace has further weakened Wolves, but players like Mateus Mane—who averages 1.6 shots per game—still pose a threat and could trouble Chelsea’s defence.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be eager to respond after their disappointing midweek loss to Arsenal, where a late goal from Kai Havertz sealed their fate. Since Liam Rosenior took charge, the Blues have lost just twice and enjoyed a run of three consecutive league victories. Nonetheless, some of Rosenior’s tactical choices have come under scrutiny, particularly in the first half against West Ham United, when Chelsea dominated possession (70%) but trailed 2-0 at halftime, having managed just 0.29 expected goals.

Historically, Chelsea have enjoyed this fixture, winning each of their last four encounters with Wolves. Both teams have scored in five of the last six meetings between the sides, and that trend could well continue in this weekend’s clash.
