‘What a surprise’ – Arteta responds to Hurzeler’s criticism of Arsenal
Mikel Arteta says he is not surprised by Fabian Hurzeler’s criticism of his Arsenal side because of the Brighton manager’s previous history.
Hurzeler was left unhappy with Arsenal’s approach in their 1-0 win over Brighton, claiming Arteta’s side “make their own rules” and that he will “never be that kind of manager who tries to win in that way”.
“What a surprise,” Arteta said when asked about Hurzeler’s comments.
“You go back to the previous games and you will find a lot of comments like this. Always.
“I love my players. That’s the highlight. I love the way we compete.”
Asked about criticism from the outside towards his team, Arteta added: “I think they love our players. Every time they talk about our players, they are the most loved ones in the country.”
The Arsenal boss also hailed the way his team battled fatigue to earn a huge win, with their lead at the top extending to seven points after Man City drew with Nottingham Forest.
“It’s a huge win,” he said. “We knew how tough it was going to be.
“We’re coming off a lot of difficult games with a lot of intensity and players going through every game with difficulties and not able to train and to come here and get a result is remarkable.”
