Reece James and Pedro Neto remain doubts for Chelsea ’s Premier League clash with Wolves on Saturday, confirms manager Liam Rosenior .

The pair both missed out on the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Tuesday, which saw the Blues beaten 1-0 and eliminated 4-2 on aggregate.

Explaining the absences at the time, Rosenior said: ‘Pedro and Reece have small knocks. They were just in too much pain for tonight.’

They both remain uncertainties for the return to Premier League action at the weekend, despite them not being serious injuries.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Rosenior said of James and Neto: ‘Don’t know yet. They have training today.

‘It’s a recovery day for the lads who played. We’ll check tomorrow.’

He added that Jamie Gittens is also out with a far more serious problem and won’t be back soon.

‘Jamie is more long-term,’ he said. ‘He’s got a tear in his hamstring which is a real shame for him.’

There was better news on both Estevao and Cole Palmer, with the Brazilian having been out due to personal reasons and the Englishman having his minutes managed in a bid to maintain fitness.

Rosenior said both were able to play 90 minutes and said of Palmer: ‘What we’re doing not just with Cole, but all of the players, is doing the right tests. We are making sure these players can play at the level they need to be.

‘He’s been magnificent, he wants to play every minute of every game, but he’s also maturing as a human being and understands the bigger picture. The lads played the Club World Cup and had no break. Then they have World Cups to go to.’

Asked whether he is frustrated that Palmer has not been regularly able to play 90 minutes, he said: ‘You want all of your players to be 100 per cent, 100 per cent of the time, but that is not going to happen.

‘Frustration isn’t the word – I’m trying to get the best out of him and the rest of the team all of the time while taking into account the games coming up. It’s not about being not able to play him in some games, it’s making sure he feels right and contributing to the team the way he wants to.’
