Nottingham Forest have reportedly identified former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira as a potential replacement for the sacked Sean Dyche. The Midlands side confirmed that the former Burnley and Everton head coach had been moved on in the early hours of Thursday morning.

His exit came just hours after his side were booed off following a 0-0 draw with bottom club Wolves at the City Ground. A statement released on social media read: “ Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the Club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”

Dyche’s sacking sees Forest start their search for a fourth boss of the season after what has been a crazy season at the City Ground. Nuno Espírito Santo was sacked back in September and was replaced by Ange Postecoglou but the former Spurs boss was jettisoned after just 39 days having failed to win a game.

Dyche was appointed as his successor but with Forest under real threat of relegation from the Premier League , owner Evangelos Marinakis has opted for another change. According to The Athletic , ex-Wolves boss Pereira has been identified as a ‘strong candidate’ to take the reins.

The Portuguese coach has been out of work since leaving Molineux in November. Pereira had managed to keep Wolves up the season prior but failed to win any of his opening 10 games this term, while his work in the transfer market has also been criticised.

The 57-year-old already knows Forest boss Marinakis, having previously worked at the Greek’s other club Olympiacos, leading them to a league and cup double. Pereira has also been linked with the vacancy at Forest’s Midland rivals Leicester City, who are still searching for Marti Cifuentes’ replacement.

Pereira has also had periods with varying success at Porto, Fenerbahce, Flamengo and many others across a storied career. Should he arrive at the City Ground, he will be tasked with preserving Forest’s place in the Premier League.

They sit 17th and just three points above West Ham United following the stalemate with Pereira’s former club Wolves. They are back in action next week as they take on another of his ex-employers in Fenerbahce in the Europa League playoffs ahead of a home game with reigning Premier League champions Liverpool .

Forest have been in the Premier League since 2022, having earned promotion under Steve Cooper. They finished 16th and 17th in their first two seasons before securing European football with an eye-catching 7th-placed finish.
