Newcastle remain supportive of Eddie Howe despite the club’s woeful run of form and have no plans to sack him.

The Magpies have endured a miserable season under the former Bournemouth man. Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford leaves Newcastle sitting 12th in the Premier League and 11 points off the pace in the race for the Champions League places. The side was booed off following their latest reverse.

Despite support appearing to wane in the stands, club chiefs are still firmly behind Howe. According to The i Paper , support among Newcastle’s decision makers remains, with Howe having spoken to director of football Ross Wilson and chief executive David Hopkinson following the defeat to Brentford.

It is believed internally that Newcastle’s current run of form is not a true reflection of Howe’s abilities as a manager. Speaking after his side’s latest reverse, the Magpies boss said: "I always feel under pressure. It's irrelevant to me, the type of pressure.

"When you're in this job, you're always in that moment: whether it's pressure to win, or to turn around results. We're very much in that [second] feeling. I always say the pressure I put on myself could not be more extreme. I demand really high standards from what I am doing and how I work, and what I ask the players to do.

"I'm obviously not doing my job well enough at the moment. I'm annoyed with myself, angry with myself, blaming myself, taking full accountability on my shoulders. No one else."

Meanwhile, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer claims he has sympathy for Howe, with the club still struggling to deal with what was a tricky summer. He said: "He's [Howe] having a really tough time, the toughest time since he's been at Newcastle.

"But I think it was a tough situation in the summer, we know with the Isak situation, and with no sporting director. But there's no doubt, their summer signings, other than Malick Thiaw, haven't worked as yet.

"They've spent an absolute fortune on four players and they're yet to get anywhere near the heights that they did at other football clubs. And that is a huge problem for Eddie and for Newcastle, and until they solve that, I'm not sure it will get better."
