Man Utd's dream Marcus Rashford transfer swap scenario as Barcelona stance emerges

Both Manchester United and Barcelona find themselves in a peculiar situation regarding Marcus Rashford's transfer future. It would appear there are individuals at both clubs keen for a permanent transfer to materialise, yet the mechanics behind any potential deal remain far from straightforward.
Los Cules are fully aware of what is required to land the England winger on a permanent basis. It has always been known that a £26million fee will get the deal over the line, but Barca aren't necessarily in a position to splash significant sums, given the recent Camp Nou redevelopment.
What Barcelona do have, however, is a healthy pipeline of homegrown talent, which could offset any shortfall, with the Daily Mail reporting the Catalans are willing to sanction sales to generate funds. And in Marc Casado, there's one credible candidate who could well serve as the ideal makeweight this summer.
In a perfect world, United might relish the opportunity to snap up a player like Alejandro Balde, Fermin Lopez or Marc Bernal to address specific requirements at left-back and central midfield. However, each of those players has either penned a new deal in the past 12 months or is otherwise unlikely to be available without spending a sum far exceeding Rashford's valuation.

The same couldn't be said for Casado, whose contract runs until the summer of 2028. The defensive midfielder made his senior debut for Barca back in 2022, but it wasn't until 2024 that he truly began to establish himself within Hansi Flick's first-team plans.
He earned his senior Spain debut that same year. And while he hasn't retained his place in Luis de la Fuente's squad since, that milestone nonetheless stands as further testament to his quality.
United are already scouting midfield targets as Michael Carrick appears set to oversee a significant rebuild of his own this summer. And among those arriving at Old Trafford must be someone capable of fulfilling the same role Casemiro has performed with such distinction.
Despite calls for the Brazilian to reconsider, Casemiro will depart United when his deal expires this summer. And Rashford's anticipated permanent switch to Catalonia could free up funds to strengthen elsewhere in the squad.

The overriding positive from United's standpoint is that they already have a capable replacement for Rashford in Matheus Cunha . This allows the club to use any Rashford sale strategically, channelling the proceeds into reinforcing another area of Carrick's side that is in greater need of attention.
Any move for Casado wouldn't be a straightforward swap but rather two distinct transfers, particularly as it could mean United having to cough up a bit of cash on top. Casado may not generate the same buzz as Fermin or Bernal, but he's a 22-year-old Barcelona regular with 29 appearances this season - and those never come on the cheap.
That said, Casado has found himself on the periphery more frequently since Frenkie de Jong's return to full fitness. And the prospect of becoming part of United's revival, with a better chance at regular starts, might prove attractive.
The youngster has already secured a domestic treble with Barca in 2025, with European success perhaps the only notable achievement absent. Nevertheless, that sense of fulfilment may help United's chances of luring him away from the Camp Nou.
By no means would United's summer spending end with Casado, but he could prove a handy starting point to accelerate Rashford's departure.
