Manchester United will explore a move for Bournemouth star Marcus Tavernier this summer.

Rebuilding in midfield is a top priority at Old Trafford this summer but Michael Carrick confirmed last week the club are also interested in signing a left winger.

United allowed four wide men to leave the club last summer in Jadon Sancho , Antony , Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford with Amad Diallo the only natural wide option in the squad, also preferring a role on the right.

Matheus Cunha can operate on the left while Patrick Dorgu showed real promise in an advanced role on that side of the pitch before suffering a hamstring injury in January.

In any case, United are strongly considering bolstering that area of the pitch. RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is a player admired but the Daily Mail report Tavernier is also attracting interest.

The 26-year-old has six goals and five assists for the Cherries this season with Aston Villa also interested in his services.

The report adds Bournemouth are open to selling the player and may value him at around the £40million mark.

United’s clear out last summer saw Garnacho and Antony leave on permanent deals to join Chelsea and Real Betis respectively.

Jadon Sancho joined Aston Villa on loan and with just months left on his contract with United, the former Borussia Dortmund star is expected to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Rashford meanwhile joined Barcelona on loan until the end of the season in a deal that can be made permanent for £26million this summer.

The England international has impressed at the Camp Nou with all parties favouring that permanent option being exercised , although there has been no final decision at this stage.

If given the permanent job, it has been reported Carrick would like to offer Rashford a route back to United. But the 28-year-old is said to favour a clean break.

Asked last month if United could be in the market for a left winger, Carrick said: ‘Yeah, quite possibly, in certain ways.
