Pep Guardiola's side boasted a two-goal aggregate lead ahead their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg with Newcastle on Wednesday night.

It took the hosts just seven minutes to open the scoring and all but end the Magpies' hopes of retaining the trophy they famously secured last season.

Guardiola had opted to keep star striker Haaland on the bench for this game, but it was no problem as Omar Marmoush once again stepped up with a crucial goal for the team.

As the Egyptian looked to get a shot away in the box, Newcastle defender Dan Burn appeared to make a well-timed challenge in attempt to clear the ball, but instead it ricocheted off the striker and into the back of the net.

Since the opener, Newcastle have twice come close to pulling a goal back, once through Joe Willock and once through Anthony Gordon.

But, another of City's squad players stepped up to the occasion as James Trafford made two crucial stops to keep their three-goal advantage firmly in tact.

Is there any way back for Newcastle, or is it game over?
