Just in – Mbappe unhappy with Real Madrid medical services, travels to France for second opinion

After a bright start to the season, Kylian Mbappe’s golden run has been brought to a screeching halt owing to a knee injury that has been plaguing him since December.

The relatively chronic pain in his knee has been troubling him on and off, and has sidelined him from the squad for the time being. He will even miss the team’s game later tonight owing to the same.

In fact, Mbappe’s participation in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 is also in doubt with the player and club hoping for a speedy recovery that may permit the same.

As reported by MARCA in a recent update, Mbappe is unhappy with Real Madrid’s medical team and the manner in which they have handled his knee injury so far.

He feels that the medical staff have failed to address the root cause of his pain in the last three months and that an external opinion may help hasten the healing and recovery.

Thus, the forward travelled to his home country France recently to consult several specialists over his situation and to develop a deeper understanding of the problem. He hopes that a new angle of diagnosis may aid his treatment.

Mbappe was in France on the day Real Madrid faced off against Benfica last week and had the club’s permission for his expedition to France. After all, he and his entourage are frustrated with the current situation.

One week ago, there were doubts if the pain in Mbappe’s knee originated from the medial collateral ligament or the caudal cruciate ligament, and identifying the exact location of the lesion would help with a more targeted treatment.

As it stands, the ongoing season is already Mbappe’s worst-ever in terms of the number of days missed through injury. The player is not accustomed to the situation he is currently dealing with, and the frustrations are understandable.
