Jamie Carragher has performed a U-turn on his prediction that Arsenal would win the Champions League , despite the Gunners reaching the semi-finals of the competition. Mikel Arteta's side sealed their place in the last four courtesy of a 1-0 aggregate victory over Sporting CP.

Wednesday night's clash at Emirates Stadium finished goalless , with Kai Havertz 's 91st-minute strike in the first leg ultimately proving the decisive moment across both matches.

Arsenal will now face Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals, with the first leg scheduled for later this month. Beating the Spanish giants would set up a potential final showdown against either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite previously tipping Arsenal to lift the famous trophy for the very first time, Carragher has now changed his tune, outlining his reservations about Arteta's squad.

Speaking following the stalemate against Sporting, Carragher told CBS Sports : "I'm not sure they've got the quality in the attack. The game we just watched tonight, you think of the players on both teams.

"It's not a criticism, they just don't have those players in attack, they haven't.

"So, that's why I think when you get to the business end of the season, certainly in the Champions League... even though I tipped Arsenal to win it, I just don't believe it.

"I can't see a team winning the Champions League who don't have a star in the front four, and they haven't got one."

Viktor Gyokeres led the line for Arsenal against Sporting, flanked by Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli, though Madueke was substituted off due to injury in the second half.

Across his ten Champions League outings this season, Gyokeres has netted four goals. He has also provided one assist.

Alongside their European campaign, Arsenal are firmly in the hunt for Premier League glory, though Manchester City are breathing down their necks. Mikel Arteta's side make the trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (4.30pm kick-off) holding a six-point advantage over Pep Guardiola's men, who still have a game in hand.

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.
