Jack Grealish praised ‘absolutely unbelievable’ Bruno Fernandes after Manchester United ’s Premier League win over Aston Villa .

Michael Carrick ’s side boosted their top-four hopes with an impressive 3-1 victory over Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.

After a cagey and goalless first half, Casemiro gave the Red Devils the lead, heading Fernandes’ corner past Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

United’s opener had been coming but Villa responded well and equalised ten minutes later through ex-England midfielder Ross Barkley.

The momentum quickly turned back in Manchester United’s favour, however, and goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko sealed the win.

United now have a three-point cushion in third and are just seven points adrift of second-placed Manchester City with eight games remaining.

Fernandes’ two assists saw the Portuguese playmaker break David Beckham’s Manchester United record for the most assists in a single season.

The overall Premier League assist record is well within Fernandes’ reach as he trails Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne’s respective tallies of 20 by just four.

Grealish was among those impressed by Fernandes’ performance against Aston Villa and hailed the United captain as an ‘absolutely unbelievable footballer’ on social media.

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney also singled out Fernandes for praise after the crucial win over Aston Villa.

‘This was a very important victory for Manchester United,’ Rooney told BBC Sport. ‘The first half was a bit flat from both teams.

‘Maybe they cancelled each other out, but then, in the second half, United played with more energy.

‘The main man for United again, Bruno Fernandes, was the difference.’
