Harry Maguire: Man United star in deep trouble with FA
Manchester United have suffered a setback ahead of their return to Premier League action later this month.
The Red Devils took the lead twice but could not hold on to victory in their 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium last month.
United’s players and manager, Michael Carrick, were left fuming at several decisions made during the match.
The Red Devils believed that they should have been awarded a second penalty when Amad was fouled in the box.
They also felt that Harry Maguire was unfairly sent off for a similar incident, which did not result in a penalty for the away side.
United have since complained to PGMOL about the decision but have frustratingly not received any response as of yet.
To compound matters for United, their defender Harry Maguire is facing punishment from the Football Association (FA).
The Daily Mail report that, “Harry Maguire has been charged by the FA for his reaction following his red card in Man United’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth.”
Maguire confronted both the referee, Stuart Atwell, and fourth official, Matt Donohue, after VAR confirmed the red card offence.
An FA statement read, “it’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal.”
Maguire has until this Thursday to respond to the charge.
The England international is already set to miss the crucial match against rivals Leeds United on Monday, 13 April, owing to his red card in the match.
The charge of improper conduct could see his ban increased, which could result in him missing out on a crucial matchup versus Chelsea on Saturday, 18 April, when United travel to Stamford Bridge in a huge match for Champions League qualification.
Maguire has played a crucial part in United’s season since regaining his place in the team following Matthijs de Ligt’s injury in November.
