Barcelona may opt to sign Manchester City winger Savinho rather than Marcus Rashford in the summer transfer window, according to reports emerging from Spain. Rashford joined Barca on loan from Manchester United ahead of the 2025/26 season and has made a tremendous impact, notching 10 goals and 13 assists in 34 appearances.

Hansi Flick is a great admirer of the 28-year-old, yet chose not to bring him off the bench in the La Liga encounter against Levante when Barcelona had the game firmly in hand. The presence of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha also means his playing time is far from guaranteed when both are fully fit.

Whilst the Spanish club can trigger the purchase clause in his loan deal for £26million, his long-term future remains unresolved, with Barcelona seemingly scouting the market for alternative targets. According to El Nacional , Flick has a clear idea of the type of winger he wishes to recruit, with Savinho's name being mentioned as a potential option.

The report suggests he is viewed as a 'market opportunity' for Barcelona, given his limited game time at the Etihad Stadium. Flick is said to be a great admirer of several attributes that Savinho, valued at around £40million, brings to the table, and believes the winger would flourish in Spain.

It has also been suggested that due to this, Flick believes the 21-year-old could prove more valuable than Rashford at Barcelona. It's been a difficult campaign for Savinho so far, with injuries and competition for positions meaning he's featured for only 535 minutes of Premier League action.

Tottenham demonstrated significant interest in the Brazilian last summer, with the player also believed to be eager for a switch in order to secure more consistent playing time in a World Cup year. Should Barcelona indeed opt to pursue Savinho or another winger instead of Rashford, a return to Old Trafford might be on the horizon.

Interim head coach Michael Carrick is reportedly keen to re-integrate him should he land the permanent role. Speaking about Rashford recently, he said : "It's difficult to say, because circumstances at certain times that I have not been involved in.

"It's difficult for me to comment really. I think the fact he's come through the academy and had such a big impact here is a positive, and as a club, he's had some really big moments and good moments.

"And I've shared some with him in the past. So, football throws up certain things, and obviously certain players. You can't stay here forever, and things happen, that's how it is."

The former United midfielder has enjoyed an excellent beginning to his stint in temporary charge, though there's no certainty he will remain at the club next season. Diego Simeone, Oliver Glasner , Thomas Tuchel, Luis Enrique and Zinedine Zidane have all been suggested as potential candidates to permanently replace Ruben Amorim.

He left United in early January following behind-the-scenes disagreements and a run of disappointing results. Rashford's final appearance under Amorim came in December 2024, before subsequently joining Aston Villa on loan.

The Portuguese boss also sidelined Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Antony, Andre Onana and Tyrell Malacia from his plans.
