Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal Premier League preview, team news and prediction

Both Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal will be aiming for a third consecutive Premier League victory when they face off at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Seagulls secured a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest at home on Sunday, while Arsenal edged Chelsea by the same scoreline to maintain their grip on top spot in the table.
Set pieces have been a hallmark of Arsenal’s success under Mikel Arteta, and they proved decisive once again against Chelsea. While Arsenal struggled to break down Liam Rosenior’s side in open play, their threat from corners was evident, with William Saliba and Jurrien Timber both scoring headers—either side of an own goal by Piero Hincapie. The Gunners’ victory was less comfortable than expected, particularly after Chelsea were reduced to ten men following Pedro Neto’s red card, which seemed to spur the visitors on for the final 20 minutes. Nevertheless, Arsenal held on, thanks in part to some crucial saves from David Raya and a timely offside call.
That win saw Arsenal equal the Premier League record for most goals scored from corners in a single season (16), and it seems only a matter of time before they set a new benchmark. After back-to-back London derby victories—including their emphatic win over Tottenham—Arsenal restored their five-point advantage over Manchester City, though City still have a game in hand. The title race remains finely poised ahead of their highly anticipated clash at the Etihad next month.
Arsenal’s away form has also been impressive—they are unbeaten in their last 11 matches on the road across all competitions. Notably, their attacking output away from home has improved dramatically, rising from an average of 1.2 goals per Premier League away game before January to 2.3 per match since the turn of the year.
Brighton, meanwhile, have also found some momentum, winning more Premier League matches in their last two outings than in their previous 13 combined. Their recent run suggests that hopes of European qualification are still alive. Former Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck scored the decisive goal against Nottingham Forest after Diego Gomez’s spectacular opener, giving Fabian Hurzeler’s side consecutive league wins for just the second time this season—the first also coming against Brentford and Forest back in November.
However, Brighton have not managed three straight Premier League victories since the opening weeks of the campaign, and their recent six-point haul was not enough to propel them back into the top half—they currently sit 11th. Still, there are positive signs for the Seagulls, who have only lost twice at home in the league all season, though they have managed just two wins in their last eight matches at the Amex.
Brighton held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the Amex just over a year ago, but Arteta’s side have already beaten the Seagulls twice this season—in both the EFL Cup and the Premier League—and are unbeaten in their last five visits to Brighton since the 2020-21 season.

Arsenal’s vital victory over Chelsea came at a cost, with Declan Rice visibly struggling in the second half before being substituted. His condition will be monitored closely in the coming hours. Martin Odegaard (knee) and Ben White (knock) are also doubts for the Gunners, although Mikel Arteta indicated that Odegaard’s absence on Sunday was precautionary. Mikel Merino, however, is ruled out with a foot injury.
If neither Rice nor Odegaard are fit for Wednesday’s match, Myles Lewis-Skelly could finally get his chance in midfield. The Hale End graduate was set to start centrally against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, before Riccardo Calafiori’s warm-up injury altered those plans.
Brighton, meanwhile, may be forced into a change of their own after Mats Wieffer was unable to finish the match against Nottingham Forest. Joel Veltman could step in at right-back if needed. Wieffer is one of four injury concerns for manager Fabian Hurzeler, along with Yasin Ayari—who is close to returning from a shoulder injury—and long-term absentees Adam Webster and Stefanos Tzimas, both sidelined for the season with knee problems.
James Milner made his record 655th Premier League appearance on Sunday, but with a quick turnaround, the energetic Carlos Baleba could be an option if the 40-year-old is rested.
